WHO WE ARE...
Casey McAuliffe
She shakes hands, is an avid bug and bird watcher/doodler, and has a yen to build a Warré bee hive. She reminds her McFarmer to slow down and look at the sunset from time to time.
Casey also manages our beloved local market, Galveston's Own Farmers' Market.
Saxton
This dear old friend was the original Moon Dog.
He traveled the country with us while we learned how to farm and he learned to be a proper farm dog. He loved to roam for hours, whether in the piney forests of North Carolina or on-leash in the mean streets of New York City. Our companion was with us from the beginning of our farm journey and lived long enough to see Moon Dog Farms become a reality, for which we are forever thankful.
Petey
Young Petey is our newest farmdog and resident goofball. He loves everyone, can play a wicked game of fetch and every day gets a case of what we call the "zoomies," in where he aims to show the chickens and farm visitors just how fast he can run in large circles despite having 3 legs. We think he's simply the best.
Our Story
Alex McPhail
He plants seeds and carries a chainsaw, engages in frequent heavy lifting (using his knees), and is partial to his mechanic's onesie for everyday attire. He reminds his McFarmer to keep her head in the now, and that not every list need a list.
Moon Dog Farms is a small Certified Naturally Grown farm and orchard located near the Gulf of Mexico, 40 miles outside of Houston, Texas.
Our land has 11 acres in an old pear orchard which we are constantly working to restore, and we grow annual vegetables on nearly 6 acres. Our farming practices are "beyond organic," meaning we use a variety of age-old methods to grow food and maintain our fields, such as cover cropping, integrated pest management, composting, inter-planting and good old-fashioned hand-weeding. We sell to a few select restaurants and at local farmers' markets.
We believe small local farms have the power to strengthen their communities, becoming hubs that connect people to the land and one another. We envision Moon Dog Farms to be a provider of healthy and delicious food as well as a place of learning, friendship, and testament to the goodness of this earth.
Moon Dog Farms is Certified Naturally Grown.
CNG follows the same standards as Certified USDA Organic. This means we never use synthetic herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, antibiotics, hormones or genetically modified organisms.
CNG is a certification program tailored to fit small farms such as ours, allowing us to grow slowly and sustainably in a way that fits our values and means.
